Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML)

Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML)

SGML is an ISO standard metalanguage in which other markup languages for documents can be defined.
SGML was designed to share machine-readable documents in large projects, which had to be preserved
for decades. SGML is used primarily for text and database publishing. XML is a subset of SGML, while
HTML and others are considered applications of SGML.
