Electronic Business Extensible Markup Language (ebXML)

Electronic Business Extensible Markup Language (ebXML)

The ebXML specification was created to provide an open XML-based infrastructure enabling the global
use of electronic business information in an interoperable, secure, and consistent manner by all parties.
More specifically, its goal was to provide mid-sized companies and developing countries the same
opportunities to leverage XML and related standards as larger companies and industrial nations have.
Currently, both the Organization for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS) and
United Nations Center for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business (UN/CEFACT) continue to sponsor
ebXML specifications and continue to lay the groundwork for widespread adoption of ebXML. To this task,
OASIS brings XML knowledge and experience, and UN/CEFACT offers business expertise through its
work in developing and managing the UN/EDIFACT EDI standard. Together they have formed technical
committees to carry forward the infrastructure portions of ebXML.
